Message from the President | Changes at University of the Rockies
SAN DIEGO (March 13, 2018) – On March 13, 2018, University of the Rockies announced our intent to merge with our sister institution, Ashford University. Our combined institution will also return to an independent, non-profit university.
Ashford University and University of the Rockies have always demonstrated a shared commitment to providing both access and excellence. The missions and values of our institutions, including a strongly shared commitment to student success, are well aligned.
Our goal is to provide additional benefits such as enhanced resources and support for our students. The merging of Ashford University and University of the Rockies will create a comprehensive educational institution that will include the undergraduate programs of Ashford, master’s programs from both universities, and the doctoral programs of University of the Rockies.
We are at the beginning stages of the process, and there are many things to do before this transformation is complete. Most importantly, we do not anticipate any disruptions to the student experience during this transition.
We will continue to be focused on the success and learning of our students. In addition, students will be guided through the transition by a combination of University of the Rockies and Ashford University staff and faculty.
The completion of University of the Rockies merging into Ashford University is subject to approval by the WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC), the U.S. Department of Education, the Internal Revenue Service, and state regulatory bodies. We expect the process to be completed by the end of 2018.
I am confident that the faculty and staff will continue to provide the excellent educational experience we are so proud of at University of the Rockies. I am committed to keeping you informed throughout the process.
Dawn Iwamoto, Ed.D.
President and Chief Executive Officer
