Licensure-Track Degree Programs

You must submit the following information, forms, and fees to the Admissions Office by the admissions deadline to be considered for admission to the Licensure-Track Master of Arts in Psychology or Doctor of Psychology programs:

  • University of the Rockies' Application for Admission for Licensure-Track Applicants.
  • A $50.00 non-refundable application fee, which may be applied for up to 12 calendar months from the time of original submission.
  • Official transcripts from all colleges, universities, and graduate schools attended.
  • A 3- to 5-page autobiography The autobiography should cover personal and professional goals; academic and professional experience; personal qualities that will contribute to your success as a graduate student; and why you have chosen to apply to University of the Rockies and your desired program.
  • Three professional letters of recommendation on University of the Rockies' Applicant Recommendation form. Letters must be from individuals who are familiar with your academic ability, work ability, integrity, and potential as a professional psychologist.
  • Miller Analogies Test (MAT) results that have been completed within one year of your application
  • Consent to a criminal background check at www.validityacademics.com.
  • Official copies of TOEFL, if applicable

Non-Licensure Track Degree Programs

You must submit the following information, forms, and fees to the Admissions Office by the admissions deadline to be considered for admission to the Non-Licensure Track Master of Arts in Psychology or Doctor of Psychology programs:

  • University of the Rockies' Application for Admission for Non-Licensure Track Applicants.

Certificate Programs or Non-Degree Seeking Applicants

You must submit the following information and forms to be considered for admission to a Graduate Certificate program or as a Non-Degree Seeking student:

  • University of the Rockies' Application for Admission for Certificate/Non-Degree Seeking Applicants.
  • Unofficial or official transcripts from institution granting the Bachelor's degree and any graduate schools attended
  • Satisfy all prerequisite courses or degree(s) required for admission to the University of the Rockies degree program in which the courses are offered
  • Official copies of TOEFL, if applicable

General Admission Requirements for On-Campus Delivery Format

Doctor of Psychology Program

If you seek admission to the Doctor of Psychology program, you must hold a Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education with a graduate level cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, or an earned doctoral degree from a regionally accredited institution.

Master of Arts in Psychology Program

If you seek admission to the Master of Arts in Psychology program, you must hold a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale, or a Master's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution. If you enter with a grade point average of 2.0 to 2.99, you will be placed on first-term academic probation.

Graduate Certificate Program

If you seek admission to a Graduate Certificate program, you must hold a Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher education with a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale or hold a Master's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution.

Additional Licensure-Track Admission Requirements

These requirements are applicable to Master of Arts in Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy Specialization, Professional Counselor Specialization or Doctor of Psychology, Clinical Specialization only.

You are required to have completed an appropriate foundation in psychology, constituted by a Bachelor's or Master's degree with a major or minor in psychology. Undergraduate coursework with grades of "C" or higher or graduate coursework with grades of "B" or higher from an accredited institution of higher learning that encompasses the following areas may also satisfy this requirement:

  • Abnormal Psychology
  • Statistics
  • Personality Theory
  • Developmental Psychology
  • Tests and Measures
  • Psychology of Learning

You may choose to remediate deficiencies prior to enrolling in the program. If you choose to enroll in the program prior to remediating these deficiencies, you will be required to take PSY 5001 Survey of Psychology I and/or PSY 5002 Survey of Psychology II. Credits earned will be in addition to published program requirements.

You must submit the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) results, which have been completed within one year of application. Please arrange to have the report sent to the University of the Rockies Admissions Office. In no case will the MAT be the sole reason for not being selected for admission.

You must consent to a criminal background check at www.validityacademics.com indicating that you have had no felonies or misdemeanors that would preclude insurability or licensure as a psychotherapist. Colorado may not license mental health providers who have had a felony conviction or who have had a court accept a nolo contendere plea to a felony if the felony is related to the ability to practice psychotherapy.

Transfer Credits

You can transfer up to 9 graduate-level semester hours into the Master of Arts in Psychology specializations; up to 12 post-master's semester hours into the 62 credit Doctor of Psychology specializations; or up to 36 graduate-level semester hours into the 121 credit post-baccalaureate Doctor of Psychology, Clinical Specialization from appropriately accredited institutions when that coursework matches University of the Rockies' curricular offerings. Only courses with a grade of "B" or above will be considered for transfer credit. University of the Rockies reserves the right to determine the relevancy of the transfer course content based on institutional catalog course descriptions, course syllabi, and/or other satisfactory documentation. Courses that must be taken at University of the Rockies and cannot be transferred in from another institution are identified in the University of the Rockies Catalog.

Personal Interviews

You may be invited to an interview conducted by members of the Admissions Committee. Interviews are required for any students entering the MA or PsyD programs who intend to obtain a degree which will prepare him or her for licensure as a mental health professional. In rare cases, telephone interviews may be conducted at the discretion of the Admissions Committee. In certain circumstances, you may be asked to undergo a second interview.

Course Delivery

Choose the course schedule that best fits your family and work responsibilities.

Daytime Courses

Daytime courses are conducted from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm or 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm one day per week for nine weeks.

Evening Courses

Evening courses meet once per week from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm for nine weeks.

Weekend Courses

Weekend courses meet on three alternating weekends during the nine-week term. A student may register for two courses on the weekend, but may not exceed the 2 courses per term policy.
