Overview:
The Forensic Psychology concentration area within the Doctor of Psychology (PsyD), Clinical Specialization degree program at University of the Rockies is designed to give you an introduction to the exciting and emerging field of Forensic Psychology. At its core, Forensic Psychology is the application of psychological principles, research, assessment and practice to the legal, correctional, and criminal/civil justice systems. When you complete this concentration area, you will have a good understanding of the various areas in which forensic psychologists practice, including corrections, law enforcement, research, consultation and assessment. You will examine the forensic application of traditional personality and cognitive assessment instruments and specific forensic instruments used for evaluation of such areas as competency to stand trial, psychopathology, propensity to commit sexual offenses, risk of violent behavior, and general response style. Through hands-on practice (under supervision), you will develop a basic competency in the major personal and social theories of family violence, including elder abuse, and develop skills in the treatment of family violence.
