What's Your Personal Business Model?
Do you know what you “bring to the table?”
According to Dr. Douglas Gilbert, dean of the School of Organizational Leadership at University of the Rockies, understanding your strengths is the first step to unlocking more satisfying personal and professional pursuits.
“Just like a successful organization, you should have a personal business model based on interests, skills, and abilities,” says Dr. Gilbert. “When you act on your personal business model, you will be more effective and driven towards a successful and rewarding career.”
A personal business model, Dr. Gilbert explains, focuses on the individual: their interests, skills and abilities, personality, and assets that are within their ownership or control. Unlike a business model for a business or organization, a personal model also takes into account unquantifiable “soft” costs and benefits, such as stress and job satisfaction.
Dr. Gilbert will explore the process and importance of knowing your personal business model during a free professional development seminar on Wednesday, May 8. The free session begins at 4:30 p.m. at University of the Rockies’ Denver Instructional Site in downtown Denver (Tabor Center, 1201 16th Street).
Participants in this free workshop will learn:
• The personal business model philosophy and how to apply it to career paths;
• How to identify and evaluate the value they bring to the workplace;
• Tools for “bringing out” the value others bring to an organization, in order to build an effective team.
There is no cost to attend this event. Space is limited and refreshments will be served, so an RSVP is requested by May 3. Respond by phone to 303.446.5850.
